• Description: In collaboration with the Department of Defense Counter-Insider Threat Program and the National Insider Threat Task Force (NITTF), and in support of September’s National Insider Threat Awareness Month (NITAM), The Defense Personnel and Security’s (PERSEREC) Threat Lab will host an in-person conference to share knowledge, strengthen relationships across the global InT Community of Practice, and integrate research into operations through the delivery of relevant presentations.

• Presenter: Mr. Brannon Niesent, Program Manager, Marine Corps Insider Threat Program
• Description: During the first part of this workshop participants will be provided an overview of the Program's mission, primary lines of effort, and operational capabilities. During the second half of the workshop, Mr. Niesent will be discussing how the Program can be leveraged by commanders, supervisors, and security/personnel stakeholders to support their risk mitigation responsibilities.

• Description: During National Insider Threat Awareness Month (NITAM), DCSA provides insider threat practitioners in DOD, federal agencies, private industry, critical infrastructure sectors, and academia with a virtual conference to engage with senior leadership on the topic of insider threat. This year’s NITAM theme is “Bystander Engagement.” The conference will include an address from Keynote Speaker Andrew J. Lochli, Assistant Director, Threat Directorate (DCSA), and cover such topics as counter-insider threat professionalization, organizational resources, toolkits for insider threat mitigation, and more!

• Description: This year marks 10 years since the tragic Washington Navy Yard shooting that occurred on September 16, 2013. Since then, there have been many positive changes to DOD insider threat policy and programs. This webinar is a collaboration between DCSA and the US Navy. The main presentation of the webinar features a guest speaker who is a survivor of the shooting and he will share his personal account.

• Description: Dr. Briggs will lead a discussion on the concept of bystander engagement where an individual or a group is aware of concerning behaviors and/or situations, knows how to respond when concerns are present, and acts. This concept is the underlying assumption in the trademarked and well-known slogan, “See Something, Say Something” and others such as “Supporting Through Reporting” and “Protect What You’ve Earned”. Positive bystander engagement is a valuable element in insider threat/risk reduction and mitigation programs.

• Presenter: Mr. Steve Santomauro, DUSN, Director, Personnel Vetting Directorate.
• Description: The DON’s Director of Personnel Vetting will discuss the nexus of Personnel Vetting and effective insider risk management.  Participants will gain an understanding of key changes that are currently happening in the personnel vetting discipline, and which will be on-going for at least the next decade.  This session will focus on significant operational changes to risk management and vetting operations which came about as a result of the Navy Yard Shooting; these changes include Continuous Evaluation, enhanced threat information-sharing capabilities, and an expansion of the data sources that vetting experts tap into in order to identify and manage personnel risk.  The session will discuss opportunities for collaboration with security managers and SSOs as well as key strategies to improve collaboration between the security and insider threat communities.
